Agave neomexicana 'Oregon' Century Plant

New Mexico Century Agave

COLD HARDY ZONE 5

Hard to find, these agaves are healthy, and fully rooted!

Agave neomexicana (sometimes labeled A. parryi v. neomexicana) An attractive, 'parryi' sub-type, mid-sized to 2 to 3 feet tall by 2 to 3 feet wide with a tight rosette bearing stout short broad silver-gray to nearly white leaves with dark brown marginal and terminal spines. It is usually solitary but occasionally older plants can produce offsets. It is a very distinctive and attractive agave! Plant in full sun to bright filtered light (best sheltered from full summer sun in hot climates) in a well-drained soil. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow much faster with regular summer irrigation - keep drier in winter. It is a moderate to fast grower, and has performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in central Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 5, and parent plants have seen temperatures well below -12F. The key to growing in zones 5 and 6 are to keep the plant dry in winter, we do this by simply covering them with an upside down plant container. These plants would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
