Agave victoriae-reginae 'Porcupine Century Plant'
Porcupine Century Agave
COLD HARDY ZONE 7
Hard to find, these agaves are healthy, and fully rooted!
A dwarf form of one of the most pleasing and symmetrical looking agaves, ‘Porcupine’ Queen Victoria Agave Century Plant, named for its white porcupine quill-like leaves, is a smaller growing selection of the infamous Queen Victoria Agave collected in the mountains of Mexico.
Plant in full sun to bright filtered light (best sheltered from full summer sun in hot climates) in a well-drained soil. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow much faster with regular summer irrigation - keep drier in winter. It is a moderate to fast grower, and has performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in central Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 7b, and parent plants have seen temperatures between 0-5F. The key to growing in zones 7 and colder are to keep the plant dry in winter, we do this by simply covering them with an upside down plant container.
These plants would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
