Agave parryi var truncata 'Oregon'
Oregon Artichoke Century Plant
COLD HARDY USDA ZONES 7-10
Hard to find agaves that are healthy, and fully rooted!
Agave parryi var truncata 'Oregon' (Oregon Artichoke Century Plant) is a very distinctive and attractive, tight forming, wide leaf agave that resembles an edible artichoke growing to about 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide at maturity. Plant in full sun to bright filtered light (best sheltered from full summer sun in hot climates) in a well-drained soil. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow much faster with regular summer irrigation. It is a moderate grower, and has performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in central Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 7, and parent plants have seen temperatures to -0F.
The key to growing in zones 6 and 7 are to keep the plant dry in winter, we do this by simply covering them with an upside down plant container. These plants would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard!
