COLD HARDY OREGON ZONE 5
Hard to find agaves that are healthy, and fully rooted!
Agave parryi x utahensis 'OR Hybrid' (Cold Hardy Century Plant) is a rare and unique cold hardy hybrid of A. parryi and utahensis. It is a very distinctive and attractive agave to 2 to 3 feet tall by 2 to 4 feet wide with long, grey/blue long, and skinny green leaves. Plant in full sun to bright filtered light (best sheltered from full summer sun in hot climates) in a well-drained soil. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow much faster with regular summer irrigation - keep drier in winter. It is a moderate to fast grower, and has performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in central Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 5, and parent plants have seen temperatures well below -12F. The key to growing in zones 5 and 6 are to keep the plant dry in winter, we do this by simply covering them with an upside down plant container. These plants would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
