Hard to find agaves that are healthy, and fully rooted!
Agave toumeyana x 'Fairy Agave' is a stunning and compact cold hardy agave. It is very distinctive and attractive, tight forming, with silver/white streaks down the tips of the slender but sharp leaf patterns giving it a graceful stature. Native to central Arizonas's high desert, growing to about a foot tall by as much wide once mature, with bright lime green leaves you'll want to plant in full sun to bright filtered light in well-draining soil. Tolerates dry conditions but will grow much faster with regular summer irrigation. It is a moderate to fast grower, and has performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in central Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 6, and parent plants have seen temperatures to -0F.
The key to growing in zones 6 and 7 are to keep the plant dry in winter, we do this by simply covering them with an upside down plant container. These plants would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard!
