Hesperaloe parviflora

False Red Yucca

Hesperaloe parviflora (False Red Yucca), a very showy native succulent from the southwest, and has been realized to be extremely cold tolerant, easily surviving sub-zero winter temperatures! This Hesperaloe produces deep dark red flowers! These are long blooming, good-looking, very low maintenance and attracts hummingbirds! Hesperaloe will often take 2 to 3 years to reach blooming size. So be patient and protect it from deer who love to eat the succulent leaves. These particular plants are hardy to at least USDA zone 5b, and parent plants have seen temperatures well below -10F. These were grown on our personal property in Oregon which is listed as a zone 6b, so they should hold good cold hardiness. These would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
