Prickly Pear Cactus 'Cow's Hybrid' (Opuntia engelmannii x) is an EXCLUSIVE hybrid prickly pear cactus growing in the high desert of Oregon. This hybrid is thought to be a cross of engelmannii and engelmannii var. linguiformis (Cow's Tongue), producing very large, sometimes elongated pads, an incredibly balanced hybrid of two already unique forms of engelmannii prickly pear. These produce a vibrant wave of yellow (with hints of green) flowers throughout the growing season. Fast growing and will produce a very large clump 4-8 feet wide by 5-9 feet tall. This hybrid variety has been growing completely unprotected in the cold high desert of Oregon, zone 6b, repeatedly seeing temps below -15 F and we have heard reports of them surviving -25 degrees (F) in the midwest!
