Western Prickly Pear Cactus 'Sandstone Sunrise' (Opuntia woodsii hyb) is a rare hybrid prickly pear cactus growing in the high desert region of central Oregon (native to southern Utah). It is a unique hybrid that has slightly lighter colored flower (reddish orange) than the 'Wildfire' ecotype. It is has a symmetrical, upright and wide growing habit, and has extra large pads, eventually reaching the size of ping pong paddles! Springtime blooms display beautiful large reddish/orange flowers that change hue over a short time! This is one of the largest variety of opuntia we grow and has been growing completely unprotected for decades in the cold high desert region of central Oregon, zone 6b, repeatedly seeing temps below zero degrees F! These have been planted as far north as Canada surviving temps below -20 degrees F!! Planting instructions are included!
