Hybrid Hardy Windmill Palm
Extremely HARD to find seeds originally sourced directly from Oregon! A first generation hybrid on a female Trachycarpus wagnerianus, hand-pollinated with Trachycarpus ‘Bulgaria’ (seed originally sourced directly from Bulgaria) pollen. The offspring are large, fast growing trees, perhaps with a bit of hybrid vigor and silver/whitish leaf undersides. This Hybrid Cold Hardy Windmill Palm is a beautiful tree that can reach heights of 10 to 30+ feet, depending on climate conditions. It is a moderate to fast grower, and performed incredibly well in our cold high desert climate in Oregon! It is hardy to at least USDA zone 6a, and parent trees have seen temperatures below -12F (in a warm microclimate). These particular seeds were collected from trees on our personal property in Oregon which is listed as a zone 6b, so they should hold good cold hardiness. These trees would make excellent additions to your hardy exotic plant collection, or just make a unique statement in your yard.
